Home to Dyess Air Force base, Abilene has a huge demographic for military personnel. In  fact, the Texas Comptroller's office says there are over 4,300 active duty personnel alone assigned to Dyess. Together with their families, the base brings an estimated 15,000 strong military population to the region.

We intentionally serve that community at The Patriot with special programming like the CBS Eye on Veterans Sunday morning show and weekday features. Many of our artists are also veterans - from retired Marine riflemen to those now serving at home as first responders. In fact, all of our current staff are either veterans and/or first responders.

The long history of Dyess AFB & Abilene growing together as a community has allowed for a large Veteran community to form in Abilene.

About 60% of farmers are male, and more than 60% of them are over 55 years old. Farm laborers have lower levels of educational attainment, are slightly younger than U.S. private wage and salary workers, are more likely to be Hispanic of Mexican origin, Farmers & Farm workers tend to work hard for their money, and spend it selectively.
